After weekend storms snarled traffic — and caused an avalanche that swept away a car in Salt Lake County — snow is expected to continue this week in northern Utah.

Monday’s storm was expected to bring a dusting to the Wasatch Front, with up to a foot of new snow in the mountains, adding to more than 2 feet that fell this weekend at the Cottonwood Canyon ski resorts.

But getting to the slopes proved a challenge; the Utah Department of Transportation reported extreme congestion along Wasatch Boulevard, leading up to the canyons — and that was before an avalanche in Little Cottonwood Canyon swept over the road, catching one car.

No one in the car was injured, transportation officials reported.

A winter weather advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. Monday throughout northern Utah, but snow accumulation in the valleys is expected to be “minor,” the National Weather Service reported. Another storm is expected to arrive Tuesday, bringing fewer than 2 inches snow to the Wasatch Front but heavier snow in the mountains.

As of Monday morning, 48-hour snow totals at Utah’s ski resorts were:

• 34 inches at Alta and Brighton
• 33 inches at Snowbird
• 32 inches at Solitude
• 19 inches at Park City Mountain Resort
• 18 inches at Snowbasin
• 16 inches at Beaver Mountain
• 15 inches at Powder Mountain
• 12 inches at Cherry Peak
• 11 inches at Deer Valley
• 8 inches at Nordic Valley
• 5 inches at Sundance
• 4 inches at Eagle Point
