Powder capable of making explosives stolen from Huntsville business - AL.com

Two dozen barrels of tungsten metal powder, which can be used in making explosives, were stolen from a Huntsville business, the authorities said.

The 17-gallon barrels were taken during a burglary at Kennemetal, a business on Highway 20 (Madison Boulevard) between 10:30-11 p.m. Saturday, according to Huntsville police. The stolen powder is valued at $186,000, police said.

Images of a dark colored truck, which appears to be a Ford F-350 with a camper shell, were captured by surveillance cameras, the authorities said. The truck was pulling a triple axle utility trailer with high walls.

Anyone with information is asked to call Huntsville police at 256-883-3791.

Updated at 8:54 p.m. to clarify that police say while tungsten powder can be used in making explosives, tungsten powder is not itself an explosive material.
