Nestle to Invest $200M in New Equipment for Plant
Food and beverage giant Nestle is planning an investment of $200 million to acquire and install new equipment at its Anderson, IN. The Swiss firm opened the Anderson facility 10 years ago to produce Nesquik Ready-to-Drink and Coffee-Mate non-dairy coffee creamer. Over the years, the facility also started to produce Boost nutritional drinks.
Fire Breaks Out at Hostess Snacks Plant in Kansas
Firefighters responded to the Hostess snacks plant in Emporia, KS in mid-December after a blaze ignited inside the facility. The blaze started in an area of the facility used for donut production where a fire broke out the previous April.
Unilever Opens $94M Foods Innovation Center
Consumer packaged goods producer Unilever held an event to mark the opening of its new €85 million (about $94 million) global Foods Innovation Center at Wageningen University in the Netherlands. The facility will be used to carry out food innovation programs in areas like plant-based ingredients and meat alternatives, sustainable food packaging, and nutritious food for Knorr, Hellmann’s, Calve, and other brands.
Kraft Heinz to Launch $25M Expansion Project
American food and beverage firm Kraft Heinz is investing $25 million in two new production lines, new equipment, and renovations at its Garland, TX production plant. Lunchables, Oscar Meyer Naturals, Kraft barbeque sauce, and Velveeta Skillets products manufactured at Kraft’s 266,000-sq-ft plant in Garland are sold across the country.
Fire Reported at Nestle Confectionery Plant
Firefighters responded to a blaze in a production unit at Nestle USA confectionery plant in Burlington, WI on December 11. Nestle’s plant in Burlington manufactures Toll House chocolate morsels and food ingredients.
McCormick and Blue Pacific Work on Powder Encapsulation
Seasonings and condiments manufacturer McCormick & Co. is teaming up with food and beverage flavors firm Blue Pacific Flavors to collaborate on encapsulated flavor delivery in powdered beverages, confectionery, and bakery products. The firms will use Flavor Cell technology developed by McCormick’s Flavor Solutions business segment and Blue Pacific’s proprietary, patented technology platform for encapsulated natural flavors.
Firm to Open $5.8M Grain and Pulses Milling Facility
Food processing firm Key Organics Inc. announced that it is investing $5.8 million to construct a new grains and pulses milling plant in Lubbock County, TX that will employ 38 workers.
Warehouse Fire Destroys 11M Lb of Peanuts
A fire at the Premium Peanut warehouse in Douglas, GA burned 11 million lb of peanuts, Powder & Bulk Solids reported last month. The firm’s chief executive officer, Karl Zimmer, told AP that the fire started Tuesday evening, while Coffee County Fire Chief Steve Carver said the blaze ignited in an area of the facility that processes shelled peanuts into oil.
